HRCBM Call on Bangladesh Government to
Ratify the ICC Treaty Now

Dear Sir/Madam,

Our nation should take a leadership role in support of the International Criminal Court. A total of 60 ratifications are needed for the ICC Statute to come into force. I urge our government to ratify the ICC Statute as soon as possible to ensure that the Court becomes operational by the new millennium.

Our country should encourage other states to ratify the ICC Statute and support the new Court. The world needs an independent, effective, and fair court to end impunity for the most egregious crimes known to mankind.

There are three specific actions that our government should take:

  1. Ratify the ICC Treaty now.
  2. Adopt necessary legislation to implement the ICC Statute domestically.
  3. Participate in further preparatory work on the ICC's Rules of Procedure and Evidence, and endure that the Court has the resources to carry out its important mission.
