Minority house set on fire to kill the inmates at Mahisar village, P.S. Bedarganj, Dist. Shariatpur: HRCBM report (as it happening)


Note: Please recall the incident of Banskhali, Chittagong  ( http://www.hrcbm.org/NEWLOOK/observer_20_03.htm ) mass murder in which a minority family burned alive by miscreants killing 11 member of the family. The only surviving member of the family expressed his anguish recently to our members regarding  the so call justice process. It is being reported that Criminals were known to local authority yet they were not apprehended.

Comment: HRCBM team is visiting to the spot of the new incident at Shariatpur. The final report will follow. This trend of atrocities against the minority community is not isolated incidents. These are systematic events that unfolding in various parts of the country for which a very few catch our eyes.

On 25th March, 2004 at night some anti-social elements belonging to ruling party set the house of Gurupada Barai on fire and as a result most of the
belongings have been burnt, a cow has been burnt, but the inmates of the house have been rescued.

A law abiding simple Hindu namely Shushil Barai son of a School teacher Master Gurupada Barai at Mahisar village, P.S. Bedarganj, Dist. Shariatpur was
implicated in a false case two years ago and continuous persecution and torture upon this family was continuing. Collection of tolls, forcible occupation of
property, gang rape upon the religious minority family is the day-to-day affairs in the locality.

Shushil Barai went to Bhedarganj P.S. for lodging complain against the accused  1) Delwar Hossain Saiyal, his son Mizana, and Matiar and others responsible for the offence.Police took the case as Bedarganj P.S. Case No.5 dated 25.03.04. As a result of lodging complain in the police station recently the accuseds caught hold of Shushil Barai and mercilessly beaten him. His father Gurupada went to rescue his son – Shushil but his old father was also caught hold and
mercilessly beaten and tortured. Both the victims are now in the local Hospital for treatment. An aged girl of Gurupda has been warned and she is
under threat. Police is silent about the incident.

HRCBM-Dhaka got the news from a reliable source and also from local Daily “Rudrabarta” published on 21st April, 04. The paper cuttings and the
picture of burnt cow will be sent soon.

HRCBM-Dhaka team is proceeding towards Bhedarganj PS at Shariatpur district tomorrow afternoon and expected to reach Shariatpur at about 12 p.m. and on 7th May,04 our team will investigate the matter and come back to Dhaka on the same night.
