Stoppage of repression on minority urged
BARISAL, Sept 27, 2001

The Bangladesh Observer Correspondent

Hindu-Buddha-Christian Oikya Parishad of Barisal Unit today demanded immediate stoppage to the repression on the voters of the Minority community in different constituencies of Barisal district.

In a Press conference held at the Barisal Press Club the Parishad members alleged that the Minority voters of Gaurnadi, Agail Upazila and Babuganj Banaripara, Bakerganj have become the victims of repression perpetrated by a section of political workers particularly the Anti-Liberation forces.

These elements, members of the Parishad said, have let loose the reign of terror in these areas and have been threatening the Minority Community voters not to go to the polling centres to cast their votes otherwise, they would be shot dead.

Leaders of the Oikya Parishad today also handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Barisal demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and stoppage of repression to the members of the Minority Community citing some examples of the act of terrorism in different areas.
