Please note, the following is a preliminary submission of incidents, primarily reported by the victims. We will update and publish a comprehensive report once our volunteers begin submitting their findings.
The situation in Bangladesh has deteriorated rapidly following the collapse of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. In the wake of this political upheaval, violent mobs have unleashed widespread attacks on minority communities across the nation, resulting in numerous casualties, forced displacements, and extensive destruction of property.
Over the past weeks, these minority groups have been subjected to unprecedented levels of violence, with reports of lynchings, arson, and other brutal acts. Despite being in charge, the Bangladesh Army, under directives from the President, has failed to restore law and order. The police forces are largely incapacitated, leaving these communities without effective protection or legal recourse.
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddha Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) depicted a grim picture of gruesome attacks against Hindus and other minorities in their report. According to the BHBCUC, there have been 205 mass communal attacks against Hindus and other minorities in 54 districts of Bangladesh since August 5, 2024, when the country’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted.
