On December 5, 2024, at the CRAB Auditorium in Dhaka, HRCBM held a significant press conference to address the escalating violence and systematic oppression of #minorities in #Bangladesh.![]()

Advocate Lucky Bacchar, Convenor of HRCBM’s Bangladesh National Chapter, along with other leaders, presented compelling evidence of arbitrary arrests, fabricated cases, and attacks on peaceful protesters. Victims of these atrocities were also brought forward to share their personal ordeals, shedding light on the human cost of such persecution.![]()

Notable cases, including the arbitrary detention of Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari and the extrajudicial killing of Hriday Ravi Das, were highlighted as examples of the systemic injustices faced by minorities.![]()

HRCBM emphasized the urgent need for a Transitional Justice Mechanism to address decades of atrocities against minorities. This includes establishing a UN monitoring mechanism to observe and report human rights violations, ensuring accountability, justice, and compensation for victims. The organization also called for dialogue between the UN, HRCBM, and the Bangladesh government to promote adherence to international human rights standards and secure impartial legal processes.![]()

These individuals are innocent victims, joining hundreds of others subjected to arbitrary detention. The Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) has learned that 500 additional individuals, including prominent Hindu professionals such as lawyers and doctors, are implicated in fabricated cases.![]()

Such actions blatantly violate Bangladesh’s international obligations. As a state party to the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, Bangladesh is committed to preventing torture and arbitrary detention. The Convention mandates that state parties take effective measures to prevent acts of torture in any territory under their jurisdiction and ensure that all acts of torture are offenses under their criminal law.![]()

We urge the international community to hold Bangladesh accountable to its commitments and to advocate for the immediate release of these innocent devotees and all others unjustly detained.![]()
