The header image shows the tragic aftermath of the incident, and the video footage includes violent scenes that may not be suitable for all audiences. These materials are included to emphasize the gravity of the event and the urgent need for justice in this case.
Utsav Mandol, a 16-year-old Hindu student from Khulna City, Bangladesh, was tragically lynched by an Islamist mob following accusations of blasphemy related to a social media post. The attack, which took place in the presence of police and army personnel, was captured on video, showing what appeared to be Utsav’s lifeless body being dragged by army personnel. Conflicting reports emerged afterward, with some media outlets claiming Utsav is dead, while others, quoting army personnel, suggested he is still alive.
The conflicting statements have raised serious concerns about the transparency and credibility of the authorities in handling the case. Many fear that the official narrative is being manipulated, given that the incident occurred under the watch of law enforcement, who failed to intervene during the mob attack. Utsav’s family is left in a state of uncertainty, not knowing whether he is truly dead or alive.
The Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) has called for an international investigation into Utsav’s current condition and the events surrounding his lynching. HRCBM also demands that, if Utsav is indeed dead, his body should be returned to his family for the performance of the necessary last rites. The organization stresses the importance of international oversight to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry, as local reports and government statements have been conflicting and unreliable.
This tragic incident has drawn widespread attention from human rights organizations and the global community. It highlights the persistent danger faced by religious minorities in Bangladesh, where mob violence and state inaction have become alarmingly common. HRCBM urges the international community to intervene and ensure justice for Utsav Mandol, as well as to address the broader issue of minority persecution in Bangladesh.
As videos and reports of the lynching circulate, the international outcry is growing louder. However, many fear that without swift and decisive intervention, justice for Utsav may never be realized. The global community must act now to prevent further violence and to safeguard the rights of vulnerable minorities.
This case underscores the urgent need for greater protection and legal recourse for religious minorities in Bangladesh. International attention and pressure will be crucial in ensuring justice for Utsav Mandol and preventing future tragedies.
